Artist's Description
The Indiana Harbor was built in Sturgeon Bay in 1979 and is owned by the American Steamship Company of Buffalo. She was named for the port of Indiana Harbor, Indiana. She has 31 hatches on deck that open into 7 cargo holds or compartments. Above the deck is a 250-foot self-unloading boom that allows her to unload cargo without the aid of shore side equipment. She is a total of 1000 ft length. Photo taken in the Port of Milwaukee, where she will be put to bed until spring. Due to the extreme temps of the winter of 2013/14 she was not able to make it back to Superior where she would have been docked until spring shipping season.
